“Big Things Come In Small Packages”
A Spotlight on Wedding Photographer Wally Gonzales

The adage “big things come in small packages” holds very true for Wally Gonzales. Not the 70’s rocker but the diminutive photographer with a smiling face and a very warm, down-to-earth disposition, on and off work. He is the Wally Gonzales that makes weddings rock.

Wedding Photographer Wally Gonzales shines bright and stands so much taller than his God-given height as soon as he begins to talk about his craft with utmost credibility and enthusiasm. Upon seeing his marvelous photo archives, the sheer artistry of this guy is obviously extraordinary. Wally Gonzales is among today’s in-demand wedding photographers who counts as his clients some of Manila’s elite and the country’s top celebrities. This year, incidentally, is his silver anniversary as a professional photographer.

Having a professional photographer for a father sealed the fate of this guy who got interested in photography at the tender age of eight and considered the darkroom as his playground and enjoyed the the scent of chemicals as if it were somewhat like “eau de cologne”. In no time, Wally Gonzales became his father’s trusted apprentice. A boy wonder, Wally at age twelve bagged his first wedding coverage job.

While other boys his age had to join the basketball team and other ‘what-have-yous’ to build their confidence and budding machismo, Wally, who knew he could never be a varsity material nor a math wizard, always carried his camera everywhere he goes as some sort of a security blanket, resulting to his discovering self-assertion, even winning the attention of the campus beauties along the way. By the time he finished high school and while in college, Wally Gonzales was already a professional photographer and earning money on his own.

After college, it was time to get serious with photography. Wally Gonzales further honed his craft to become a photojournalist, covering police beats, sports, aerial and advertising photography for some of the most distinguished broadsheets in the country.

It is through his wide gamut of experiences that he is able to create exciting and distinctive photographs. Employing all the skills and expertise he has gained through the years, Wally eventually focused on the wedding coverage industry and the rest, they say, was history.

A man who loves a challenge, Wally Gonzales chose the field of Wedding Photography since it employs almost all the disciplines of photography – from photojournalism to fashion, from interior to travel. He employs all these knowledge he has gained through the years in every wedding he covers – capturing all the decisive and dramatic moments as they happen – to give the best coverage possible to the satisfaction of the couple. Wally Gonzales perfectly understands that a wedding is, and should be, a once in a lifetime event.
When asked the reason for his success, Wally Gonzales has an easy answer: “I believe that it's my dedication to my chosen craft and my passion to shoot! I am giving my heart in everything I do. It’s as simple as that.”

With all the obvious traces of being a happy go lucky kind of a man, this impression got lost with his answer when asked about his inspiration.

“My inspiration? My children. I am doing all my best for them”, he quipped. A daughter is slowly getting into the photography biz and Wally is very excited with the possibility of a third generation photographer in the family.

Wally Gonzales leads the pack of the country’s top photographers in a showcase of current works via “WEDDINGS.. GET SET... GO!!!
